Synopsis: When the Circle C ranch decides to host a rodeo competition with two other ranches, dozens of cowboys are eager to prove they're the best riders and ropers in the valley. But they're not the only ones who want to show off their skills--Andi aims to lasso her way to the prizes, even if big brother Chad says the contest isn't for kids.

The roundup is meant to be a time for food, fun, and friendship. But before Andi can prove she's got what it takes to be a real cowgirl, the day turns dangerous. Will a friendly rodeo turn into a range war between ranchers and sheepherders? Can Andi and her family keep their neighbors--and themselves--safe?
My Review: I received this book in exchange for an honest review.
Andi reminds me a lot of myself when I was a kid, always having high dreams, and somehow getting into the worst of predicaments. Andi's life revolves around her horses and her home, the Circle C ranch. When the ranch decides to host a rodeo, that's all Andi can dream of, is winning big at the rodeo. Of course, Andi being Andi, she has to find herself in the middle of a big predicament, much bigger than herself. Can she help enough to get them all out of trouble?
I love reading these books, They are easy enough for my youngest to read them. They provide a cute story, history about California and how it was growing up in the late 1800s. Not to mention, it is always fun to see how Andi gets herself out of her latest predicament.
My Review: I received this book in exchange for an honest review.
This was probably the most suspenseful book out of the series so far. Andi and her mother find themselves kidnapped in a case of mistaken identity when Andi's mother substitutes as teacher. Their freedom depends on Andi's mother's ability to teach a man how to read and how quickly it happens.
I love reading these books, They are easy enough for my youngest to read them. They provide a cute story, history about California and how it was growing up in the late 1800s. Synopsis:
A dangerous, homeless drifter who grew up picking cotton in virtual slavery. An upscale art dealer accustomed to the world of Armani and Chanel. A gutsy woman with a stubborn dream. A story so incredible no novelist would dare dream it.
It begins outside a burning plantation hut in Louisiana . . . and an East Texas honky-tonk . . . and, without a doubt, in the heart of God. It unfolds in a Hollywood hacienda . . . an upscale New York gallery . . . a downtown dumpster . . . a Texas ranch.
Gritty with pain and betrayal and brutality, this true story also shines with an unexpected, life-changing love.
My Review: I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I wasn't sure what to expect from this book, but whatever it was, it definitely isn't what happened. It was a crazy, moving, soul-wrenching book that makes me want to shake people and say, "See? This! This is why we are better people if we embrace each others' differences!" This book, though fiction, gives me hope that people at such opposite ends of the spectrum, one a homeless, angry black man and another white man of privilege and wealth, can come together and understand each other as human beings....and come away from the encounter a better person for it.
The beginning of the book is kind of slow, however it picks up pretty quickly, and from then on out, I couldn't put it down. I wish this was required reading for everyone in this time of strife and uncertainty.
We all know Barbra, the star, but how well do we know Barbra, the woman? In the latest installment of my On the Couch series, Dr. Darcy Dale, a renowned, pioneering Manhattan psychiatrist, is confronted by Barbra, who is dismayed after thirty years of minimally successful therapy. Over the course of a year, Dr. Dale conducts an intimate psychoanalysis, breaking through Barbra’s defense mechanisms and repressions to delve deep into the heart and mind of one of America’s last remaining superstars.
Published at the same time as Streisand’s own, long awaited memoir, Barbra Streisand: On the Couch is an essential companion, a sensitive, objective, pitch-perfect opportunity to look behind the voice and image, and to understand and fully appreciate Barbra Streisand, the human being.

Bound is an excellent writer and with the aid of her meticulous research has really penned an entertaining book that gives us a peek into Streisand’s life and psychological struggles. Using fiction instead of biography has given her poetic license to write about a social icon in a fresh way. She doesn’t over do the fiction but just adds to Barbara Steisand’s persona. I loved this book and recommend you pick it up. I think it would also make an excellent gift for a Barbara Streisand fan!

Praise Barbra Streisand: on the Couch by Alma H. Bond, Ph.D.

"Thoroughly enjoyable."—Kitty Kelley, author of mega bestselling biographies on Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, Rock Hudson, Elizabeth Taylor, Frank Sinatra, Nancy Reagan, the British Royal Family, the Bush family, and Oprah Winfrey
“Absolutely delightful … and wonderful … with fabulous insight … Fans of Barbra Streisand [will] love this book . . . It’s impossible to come away from [it] with anything but a warm, fuzzy feeling for this . . . adored songbird… Underneath is [an] . . . insecure little girl who lost her daddy . . . and never truly got over it.”—Readers Favorite

“This will appeal to anyone who enjoys discovering information about such a celebrity, how she feels about the ups and downs of her life, and other juicy details of her storied sex life and stellar career. [...] The book has a can't-put-it-down quality; the juiciness of the gossip, the emotional insights into her joy and pain, and the remarkable triumphs and failures of her long career are completely fascinating. Although the book is fiction, the author lists in a bibliography the numerous books and articles from which she garnered the very factual events and many of Miss Streisand's own words from interviews that she used to create the sessions...”-Midwest Book Review
"I’ve been a fan of Bond’s On the Couch series for years, but this one is absolutely her best. Barbra Streisand--with all her foibles and charms--comes alive on the pages of this book. Bond digs deep into Streisand’s psyche to give the reader a close-up look at a mega-star.
Instead of a tell-all novel that dishes out the dirt on her many costars, we follow along with Streisand as she herself recounts her many projects, affairs, and early history. Instead of a public relations–approved biography that glosses over Streisand’s need to be in control of her projects, this book revels in it, explores the reasons for a demanding actor/musician/director to behave as she does, shows the reader just how dedicated to her craft Streisand is.
If you’re a fan of her acting, her music, her career, or her activism, this is definitely a book you should read. Even if you’re not a fan, chances are you will be by the time you finish the book.”- Ann Beardsley

Synopsis: Will a damaged reputation and desire for society's approval thwart the legacy of grace?
Tainted by scandal and forced to leave London for the quieter Brighton countryside, the Honorable Miss Clara DeLancey is a shadow of her former society self. She's lost the man she loved to another and, in a culture that has no patience for self-pity, is struggling with depression. A chance encounter brings her a healing friendship with the sisters of an injured naval captain. But Clara's society mama is appalled at the new company she's keeping.

Captain Benjamin Kemsley is not looking for a wife. But his gallant spirit won't let him ignore the penniless viscount's daughter--not when she so obviously needs assistance to keep moving forward from day to day. Can he protect his heart and still keep her safe?

When they're pushed into the highest echelons of society at the Prince Regent's Brighton Pavilion, this mismatched couple must decide if family honor is more important than their hopes. Can they right the wrongs of the past and find future happiness together--without finances, family support, or royal favor?
My Review: I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
As I have read this series, and other Regency books, I can honestly say, I have definitely been born in the right era. I can't imagine not being able to speak my mind, to let out a curse word at least once or twice a day, or be seen as any man's property. Just the idea of having those expectations around you constantly is a nightmare for me.
Clara is the lowest of the low in society's eyes, and she has been ostracized, not only by society but by her family. Predictably, she struggles with depression, not only because she has lost the man she loved to another, but because of the snubbing from society.
Along comes Captain Benjamin Kemsley, not looking for any romantic encounters but he just can't ignore the helpless and rejected woman his sisters have befriended.
This is a sweet romance story that shows trust in God and your heart is more important than what society's expectations are.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8569628936701141350.post-19799136971511260212017-10-24T04:10:00.000-04:002017-10-24T04:10:02.520-04:00#REVIEW: Falling Into Right by Sharon Kay

My Rating: 4 stars

My Review: I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
How can you explain when grief makes you do inexplicable things? How can you forgive yourself afterwards? Becca has done something awful, and even though she has paid her debt to society, she still can't explain or forgive herself for what she has done.
Shane is a hometown hero, an Army sergeant who has survived an IED blast, and come home to become a K-9 cop. He can't forgive himself for surviving when so many of his men didn't.
After Becca literally falls at his feet, they come together in a sweet romance, showing that two broken people can help each other heal with love. Of course, there is someone who can't let go of Becca's past indiscretion, forcing her to constantly relive it, making her unable to truly forgive herself.
I'm so glad the author didn't use the typical lack of communication between the two main characters to drive the storyline and produce angst enough for the reader to question their HEA. Instead, she used her amazing writing abilities to bring the two characters and their nemesis together in a final showdown with a sweet HEA.
Synopsis: One day in 2002 the fifty-year old body of former Pittsburgh Steeler and hall of famer Mike Webster was laid on a cold table in front of pathologist Dr. Bennet Omalu. Webster’s body looked to Omalu like the body of a much older man, and the circumstances of his behavior prior to his death were clouded in mystery. But when Omalu cut into Webster’s brain, it appeared to be normal. Something didn’t add up.
It was at this moment, Omalu studying slides of Webster’s brain tissue under a microscope, that the world of contact sports would never be the same: the discovery of Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy. CTE can result in an array of devastating consequences including deterioration in attention, memory loss, social instability, depression, and even suicide. And Omalu’s discovery of CTE in the brain of an American football player has become the catalyst of a blazing controversy across all contact sports.
At the center of that controversy stands the unlikely Dr. Bennet Omalu, a Nigerian-born American citizen, a mild-mannered, gentle man of faith. It is fascinating that it would take someone on the outside of American culture to make this amazing discovery, and refuse to let it be kept hidden. Dr. Omalu began his life in strife, growing up in war-torn Nigeria. But his medical studies in forensic pathology proved to be a lifeline. It fed his natural curiosity and awakened within a deeper desire to always search for the truth. Who would have thought that such an unexpected character would play such a role in bringing to life this world-changing data?
In Truth Doesn’t Have a Side, discover the truth about CTE: Its causes and symptoms, how we might keep our children safe and guide professional athletes when CTE sets in. The problem of CTE is coming to light with each new story about an athlete’s concussion problem, and we are likely facing dramatic changes to professional sports. You’ll be inspired by Dr. Bennet Omalu a man driven by his love and concern for the welfare of all people, and his professional vow to speak the truth.
There are books that come into your life that are life-changing. They change the way you look at the world, or an aspect of your life or society, and you are never the same after. Or it's a book you can't stop talking about with your friends. This book is both for me.
Growing up in the Deep South, football is life. It literally takes up over half our week, from high school Friday Night Lights, to Saturday College Football, to Sunday, Monday and Thursday pro football. Parents go out with their kids and toss the pigskin back and forth for hours. For some, it is the only possibility out of a life of abject poverty. Thinking that it could be a life-threatening sport that we are willingly putting our children in from single-digit ages goes against threads that make up a good portion of our society. Football is such a lucrative sport, I can understand why the NFL would want to squash this evidence that shows football can negatively impact a player's life.
The author, Dr Bennet Omalu, puts forth the situation in which he found the first case of what he later termed, Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy, or as we lay people recognize it, CTE. He does it in such a clinical, and yet personable way that makes him seem very approachable and no-nonsense. He presents the facts, and says how he came to his conclusions.
During the time I was reading this book, it came out that Aaron Hernandez was found to have the worst case of CTE known at his age. It certainly explains why a superstar player like Hernandez, who was adored in New England, would get involved with drugs, murder (alleged murder, since his suicide in prison overturned his conviction), and suicide. It can also explain why OJ Simpson has done the things he has done.
I highly recommend reading this book to anyone and everyone I come across.

My Review: I received a copy of this Bible in exchange for an honest review.
The words large print can be deceiving, however, as most Bibles are printed in 8 point font, it is a larger font at 10 points. I find the font size to be perfectly fine for me, especially if I am using my Bible in a low-lit area. The cover itself is a beautiful cloth over cardboard, a large floral print and navy spine. As someone who loves touching and handling things, I absolutely love my cloth Bibles.
I did get the Beautiful Word Bible before for review, and the one thing I didn't like about it was the illustrations were mostly already colored in. In this iteration, the reader gets to color, and there is plenty of space for note taking, writing down your thoughts, or journaling in general.
I feel like the publisher took what I didn't like about the previous one and changed it into exactly what I wanted.
The oldest of the Danjuma brothers, Rasheed was a self-made man. He’d learned at an early age that love and commitment brought with it complications he didn’t want to deal with. His single-minded focus had paid off. He was able to step into the shoes of his absentee father by taking care of his mother and twin brothers. But just when he thought he could stop carrying the weight of his family on his shoulders, he gets a call that could change the trajectory of Rasheed’s life.
Ibiso Jaja, a professional caterer, had gambled on the love of a man and lost. Through the redeeming love of God, she had picked herself up and was now living her dream as the owner of Bisso Bites, a bistro in the heart of Abuja. However circumstances conspire to threaten the bistro and bring her face to face with the type of man she has vowed to avoid. The attraction is instant.
Once again, Rasheed is forced to do something he has done all his life – put the needs of his family ahead of his own. This time however, he crosses path with the sassy, independent, Jesus-loving caterer who is bent on making him see the power of forgiveness and God’s love. Just when Rasheed lets his guard down, a deadly sabotage causes old demons to rise. Will Rasheed continue to pursue power and success or surrender to the light of God’s love?

When cardiac surgeon, Jabir Danjuma met Damisi Odinga at the University of Michigan seven years ago, it wasn’t necessarily love at first sight. With love comes commitment and he knows that’s not a promise he could keep, after all he is his father’s son. However, their attraction can’t be denied. Their ensuing one year romance is passionate and intense, and he begins to feel the forbidden emotion—love. Just as he starts to let his guard down, Damisi breaks up with him and moves half way around the world to Lagos, Nigeria. He knows immediately that the demise of their relationship has something to do with that church she joined. She becomes unrecognizable and wants to change him into something he is not. His studies are the most important thing to him, so he did what any sane man would do, let her go.
Popular television personality Damisi Odinga, needs to end the fourth season of her show Becoming Ruth, with a bang. The trending topic in the country is the fairy-tale wedding of the heir to the Danjuma empire. The family has been shrouded in secrecy ever since the unknown sons resurfaced in the country last year. Coverage of the wedding weekend will give her show the boost it needs and seal its number one rating. No one can get an interview with the couple but she had a way in, her ex man, Jabir Danjuma. So what if he broke her heart and she hasn’t been able to get over him? This was kingdom business, right?
Years ago, Damisi left him without an explanation and now Jabir has her just where he wants her. Their encounter sets off a series of events that leave them both with fresh pain and hurt. Angry, they leave Abuja to their destinations. If they didn’t set eyes on each other again it would be too soon. But little did they know that fate has another thing planned. Will they stick it out long enough for the Potter to perfect their scars and pain for His purpose or will distance and time steal the day.

Synopsis: Elizabeth of York died in 1503. Annie Campbell lives today. Can they reach through time to heal one another's soul, or will their secrets be impossible to overcome?
.... Why can't I sleep? It is not as though tonight is any different from last night, or the night before, or even the night before that. It's hot, and not a breath of air moves through the window. I feel like I will go mad from this anxiety, this fear. But of what? It's so very dark tonight. No moon, no light from the windows. Just dark... Damn you, darkness. You've not been kind the past few nights. What horror do you hold for me tonight?
My Review: I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I remember the first time I picked up a Philippa Gregory novel. It was The White Queen, and I was in an airport, waiting for my flight to go back home and plan the funeral of the man who raised me after my father died. In spite of all the grief I was in, I couldn't put it down, and it started a love for me of the historical fiction that was the War of the Roses and the Tudor dynasty. So when I saw this book, I had to revisit my old love.

This book is definitely a different take, blending both historic and modern times, but I really enjoyed it. This is the first book I have read by this author, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The author made the two characters come to life and shed some light on Elizabeth of York., a queen with still much mystery that surrounds her. I liked the idea of two very strong women guiding this book, even though one doesn't seem to know it in her own brokenness.

I will be looking for more of this author's works, as her way of writing was so immersive and entertaining. The only thing I don't like about the book is the cover, it's just not calling to me.

Synopsis:
From her first breath of fresh air beyond the pit, it has never been enough for Beth Moore to be free. This best-selling author and Bible teacher who has opened the riches of Scripture to millions longs for you to be free as well—to know the Love and Presence that are better than life and the power of God’s Word that defies all darkness.
Beth’s journey out of the pit has been heart-rending. But from this and the poetic expressions of Psalm 40 has come the reward: a new song for her soul, given by her Saviour and offered to you in Get Out of That Pit—friend to friend. This is Beth’s most stirring message yet of the sheer hope, utter deliverance, and complete and glorious freedom of God:
I waited patiently for the Lord
He turned to me and heard my cry
He lifted me out of the slimy pit
He set my feet on a rock
He put a new song in my mouth
It is a story, a song—a salvation—that you can know too.
My Review: I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
All of us at one time or another find ourselves in a pit, whether it is self-made, or completely out of our control. You know, those horrible situations or habits that we find ourselves in or doing that we can't get out of no matter how much we struggle. And it really is like quicksand, the more we struggle, the harder we fight, the deeper we seem to get into it. Sometimes, we need to stop fighting, and hold our hands out for God's help. This book shows us that even in the Bible, pits were very real, scary things, but that with God's help, we can rise above every single one of them that we find ourselves in.
The author goes into three different ways we find ourselves in pits: the ones that we are thrown into, the ones that we sort of end up in without much idea of how we got into it, and then the one pit that we wholeheartedly fling ourselves into.
It doesn't matter how deep, how hopeless, how dark and slimy that pit is that you are in right now, you can get out of it with God's help. God will help you get out. That is the lesson of this book.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8569628936701141350.post-45729490624901441712017-08-18T17:51:00.003-04:002017-08-18T17:51:56.967-04:00#BLAST: The Devil's Assistant Series by HD Smith

Dark Awakened (The Devil's Assistant Book 2)
Last spring Claire’s seemingly normal—if not totally screwed up—life was tossed on its head. For five years she’d been one of the damned—a human that knows the truth about the otherworldly among us. She’d worked for The Boss—the Demon King himself—as his administrative assistant, handling everything from early retirements, to Maintenance’s incessant requests for dental.
No one gets dental.
Then she walked into Purgatory—totally not her fault—went back in time, and awakened powers she never knew existed. Now Claire has a prophecy hanging over her head, a diamond ring hidden in her sock drawer, and the blood of a long dead royal running through her veins.
And it’s only going to get worse.
Her vow to live free or die takes a serious hit when she’s forced back under The Boss’s protection. Of course, there’s no protection from fate, or the Bounty Hunter sent to deliver her to Purgatory. And as if being “the girl” in the prophecy wasn’t enough, Claire soon discovers there are three other contenders for her role—two of whom want her dead.

Last Spring, Claire was framed for the murder of Junior, the Devil’s oldest hellspawn.
Last Summer, she reawakened the fourth realm, saved the world (after almost destroying it), and wound up with the worst job ever.
Now, Claire’s been locked out of her realm, given an assistant that doesn’t actually assist, and told to handle a small problem in Underworld that might just get her killed.
And to top it all off, Mab’s made one of the contenders her untouchable. So, yeah, you could say Claire’s having one of those days.
Follow more of Claire’s adventures in Dark Forsaken, book 3 of the Devil’s Assistant Series, to find out if Claire can defeat the latest contender, survive the quads, and replace the curator before Harry figures out she’s stolen his blood.

One final contender stands between Claire and claiming the Fallen Throne—but Faith isn’t giving up without a fight. Defeating Faith and taking her blood isn’t all Claire has to worry about. She must find the last few drops of her own original blood—before the big three usurp her realm and end any chance of her completing the prophecy.
Mace offers a strong shoulder, but as long as Claire aches for the missing Thanos, she can’t let herself lean on it.
Meanwhile, the Oracle has emerged from a 500-year hiatus to gleefully fling monkey wrenches into Claire’s timeline. Claire loses several hours to one of the hag’s schemes, resulting in Faith getting away with the Prince of Time. Which definitely isn’t part of the prophecy.
Putting the Time King back together again won’t be easy. Even if Claire manages to gather all the parts, nothing fits like it did before. The cracks expose the truth that will change everything…including who’ll be the last man standing by Claire’s side.

My Review: I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I love reading Christian biblical fiction. It's a great way to read a story that we have read time and time again from a new perspective, to get new insights from it. And I love boots on the ground, inside the characters, Biblical stories, from a character on the other side. Seeing it from Marcus' point of view was a point of view that I haven't yet experienced. Being able to read about the political intrigues and see what perhaps just one of those soldiers felt, to humanize them and understand they weren't just men blindly following orders, perhaps they had opinions and disagreed with their orders, much as we do today in modern time.
Then to see from the ground zero perspective how Jesus changed the common person in an everyday manner, it really brings life to the story for me.
I think my next goal is to read a book similar to this on how early Christianity changed into what it is now. Maybe see a first person perspective on one of the early schisms.
Only a small blip in the lives of lifelong best friends Arnie Fischer and Zellie Morgan, who with no license and even less practical experience form a detective agency. Their fervent desire for a nice little “find stuff” business rapidly devolves into perilous encounters with a mysterious buxom blonde client, a dead body, assorted mobsters, a sleazy detective, a sinister fashion designer, a car dealership owner only vaguely clinging to reality, and yes, a naked ex-girlfriend on the couch. And even more dangerous – navigating a burgeoning romantic relationship. No problem.
Of course, saving Zellie from the clutches of very dangerous people might be a little more difficult…

She walked into the Moo Mart, ignored Eddie’s ‘Can I help you?’ and strode right over to where we were sitting. She stood about five-eight with a buxom figure and platinum blonde hair. She wore a white semi-sheer blouse, a blue skirt with the hem just below her knee, and I am not making this up–cowboy boots.

Audacious Bagel is not a typical deli. They actually employed “bagel baristas” (BBs) to bring you your choice from over a hundred types of bagels. Everything from plain to ‘chocolate chip raisin cinnamon deluxe.’ Personally, I think of a bagel as not including much of anything, and always order a plain one, although Zellie has been known to get a raisin, which I guess is moderately okay, and Ted almost always gets ‘hamburger-infused,’ whatever that is.

Last time we were there, my favorite BB, Delilah, personally recommended a pizza bagel. I must admit, it was pretty good. Delilah is great. She went back to school at night to study marketing. She practices her marketing skills on anyone who will listen, and we always do.

REVENGE FIRES BACK

Brady Clark's family chooses horrible timing for their first camping trip - a night when a fierce storm leaves them stranded in the woods. Circumstances that leave him running around in the forest wearing, well, let's just say less than appropriate attire cause him to unleash his anger by physically assaulting his father.
Not yet ready to face the discipline he has coming, Brady makes false allegations against both of his parents. That one foolish move throws the Clarks into a world they know very little about. A world that could possibly prevent them from ever dwelling together again as a family unit.
Can God use these trials to wake this family up to His purpose?

Mermaid life has never been easy for Verona. Her scars give evidence of her abuse. When her day of reckoning arrives, she is determined to endure exile. According to her father’s experience, exile is better than becoming a land-walker and risking her life among the humans.
However, when she saves the life of a drowning human boy, she inadvertently sets off a chain of events which force her to choose a path: stay with the humans she has become attached to or return home to a life of scorn. A savage hunter draws closer, threatening even the humans. Her only hope is to keep everyone safe until the next full moon, but those around her devise their own plans.

After all, as the beautiful daughter of a marquess, she should have her pick of the eligible nobility hen she debuts. She, however, has love at the top of her list of marriageable attributes. And her romantic heart falls hard for one particularly dashing, attentive suitor. Sadly for Charlotte, her noble father intends her betrothed to be someone far more dull.
William Hartwell may be a duke, but he knows he was Charlotte's father's pick, not the young lady's own choice. And the captivating Lady Charlotte does not strike him as a woman who will be wooed by his wealth or title. While she has captured his heart, he has no idea how to win hers in return--and the betrayal and scandal his first wife put him through makes it difficult for him to believe that love can ever be trusted. His only hope is that Charlotte's sense of responsibility will win out over her romantic notions.
Can a widowed duke and a romantically inclined lady negotiate a future and discover love beyond duty? Will they be able to find healing and hope from the legacy of grace? Poignant and charming, this is another beautifully written, clean and wholesome Regency romance from Carolyn Miller.
My Review: I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
If you like reading Regency books, this is a great series for you to read, starting with the previous book, The Elusive Miss Ellison. This book was even better than the previous book, and it dealt with the subject of arranged marriage, that I haven't seen many Regency books deal with.
In the beginning of the book, I admit, I didn't like Charlotte, she was flighty, air-headed, and shallow. Her attitude towards relationships and men reflected that. However, as the book progressed, she gradually grew up, and realized what real love looks and acts like. As her views on love progressively changed, so did her outlook on life. and you could truly watch her grow as a character.
I love books where the characters evolve and the action continues at a steady clip, it is the perfect mix for me. I can't wait for the next book in this series.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8569628936701141350.post-22992034089981345592017-08-01T03:51:00.002-04:002017-08-01T03:51:59.817-04:00#REVIEW: Record of Wrongs by Sharon Kay

My Review: I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I first started reading Sharon Kay's books when she came out with the Solsti Prophecy series, and then continued on with her Watcher's Kiss series. She does an amazing job of paranormal romance. But some authors just stick with the genre they are good in. I'm really glad that Sharon Kay stepped out of her comfort zone because it proves that she's really a writer, not just a paranormal romance writer. And she is an awesome writer.
We meet Cruz Zaffino just as he is being released from prison. He's the ultimate bad boy. Not just a bad boy, but a bad boy who spent 10 years in prison for murder. However, as some know, our judicial system isn't fool-proof and innocent men get put away for crimes they didn't commit.
Then we meet the sweet innocent country girl, Rosie Marlow who as it happens, also is hiding a dark secret of her own. Of course, dark secrets are relative when you're dealing with the country life, where everyone knows everyone else's business (and everyone is related...I mean this in the best way and knowing this from experience from my own family).
On the surface, you would think this is a story of redemption of the bad boy by the sweet innocent country girl, and in most of the book, it is. But ultimately, both characters find redemption and love in each other.
Sharon Kay broke out of her comfort zone with this book. She took a chance, and ended up writing an amazing story. She proved that not only is she a great paranormal romance writer, but she is a great writer. Period.
Synopsis: Life lessons and almost irreverent musings from twenty-five years in the global coffee industry

When many Christians take a long, hard look at the lives of the spiritual elite in America, they want to shout, "I don't want to be like that!" Ron DeMiglio knows how they feel and he's not afraid to do the shouting—even when those shouts are sometimes directed at himself.
Coffee, the World, and Jesus is a collection of mildly contrarian musings from this international coffee businessman who happens to love Jesus. In these humorous vignettes about the relational, flawed, unwavering faith Ron clings to, readers will find glimmers of their own daily struggles to reflect Christ in a fallen world. For the religiously cautious, the disillusioned, and jaded followers of Christianity, this is a refreshing look at how God reveals Himself to be so much bigger than politics, dogmas, or western influences.
Ron's sidesplitting series of stories about how he found his spiritual groove smack-dab in the middle of his God-breathed, coffee-scented uniqueness will appeal to readers looking for a quick bite of spiritual growth with their next latte.

My Review: I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This book took a few chapters to really start getting into, and that's why I'm giving it 4 stars. In the very beginning, I really felt like I was plodding along, however, then I felt like I got into the rhythm of the writing. Once that happened, then it became a great book to read. This book is a fantastic group of musings of how God uses each of us in our daily lives to teach us more about Him, and how to reach out to those who may not have a relationship with God.
I've always believed from my own experiences, that God truly reaches out to us where we are, instead of us having to reach out to God. This book reinforces that thought process. Each of the chapters are funny and well-written.
Synopsis: “I’m really concerned about the state of the world. It feels like things are falling apart.”
“I’m worried about my family’s future.”
“How can I stand firm in my faith in today’s culture?”

Our times are turbulent ones, and questions and worries like these can haunt us and keep us awake at night. Yet is it possible that, ultimately, there is actually nothing to fear? Barry C. Black is the spiritual “leader of leaders” for the US Senate―shepherding those on the front lines of the decisions that shape our culture. Now, Chaplain Black shows all of us how to thrive in the midst of today’s turbulence and confusion by following eight principles that Jesus gave his disciples prior to sending them into a dangerous world. These teachings are as relevant today as when Jesus first spoke them two thousand years ago.

Containing Scriptural insights and powerful prayers to help you seek God’s guidance and blessing, Nothing to Fear will illuminate the way to live boldly, bravely, and faithfully in the face of today’s perils.

My Review: I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This book was just okay for me. As a person that struggles day to day with what can be overwhelming anxiety, this book taught me that no matter what God's got our back. And lately, this world has been so messed up, so scary, so worrisome, that the cloud of darkness can overshadow my knowledge that God's got this...all of it.

So, on one hand, it was good to read and remind myself of that fact. It was good to see it in print, to reassure myself. I can see myself re-reading parts of the book in the future when things get so messy.

On the other hand, however, the book seemed to jump from subject to subject and felt choppy. Almost as if I was reading a bunch of different sermons on the same general subject. This made for disconcerting reading, and almost made me want to put down the book.

Overall, if you need the reassurance that God is in charge of everything and you can't control anything, most of this book is for you. Just don't expect it to be a continuous process in reading.

My Review: I received a copy of this Bible in exchange for an honest review.
This Bible is advertised for little girls, but I don't see anything specifically for little girls. This could be for any child from 6-10 years old. The cover is a light teal color, with a whimsical, garden feel using gold and silver foil, glitter and cute little animals (love the little fox in the center). The right hand side of the front cover has a design that is reminiscent of a diary with the keyhole.
Reading through Ruth quickly, the reading level seems appropriate, but I will really test this out with my youngest daughter this coming week.
The paper is just as thin as any other Bible, the font a little larger perhaps to make it easier to read. Overall, this is a beautiful Bible for any child in this reading range, however, I take exception to the fact that it is marketed as girl specific.
