COVER REVEAL: Dead Plains by Angela Scott

Synopsis:

Sometimes, the ones you least suspect are the ones that should worry you the most.

People aren’t always what they seem, as Red has experienced all too well. Strangers are feared, towns are avoided, and everyone’s intentions are scrutinized… even those of the people closest to her. Her coveted ability has been revealed to far too many people, and now that a tiny heartbeat thumps and grows beneath her own, the risk has never been greater.

As the group of ten searches for a safe haven, a place to finally call home, the sobering reality of it all finally settles over them: nowhere is safe, nothing is permanent, and death is everywhere. One by one, Red’s reluctant posse grows smaller, as death claims some, and circumstance claims others.

It couldn’t be a worse time to bring a newborn into the world… but the baby
is coming.

Angela Scott

Author Bio: I hear voices. Tiny fictional people sit on my shoulders and whisper their stories in my ear. Instead of medicating myself, I decided to pick up a pen, write down everything those voices tell me, and turn it into a book. I’m not crazy. I’m an author. For the most part, I write contemporary Young Adult novels. However, through a writing exercise that spiraled out of control, I found myself writing about zombies terrorizing the Wild Wild West—and loving it. My zombies don’t sparkle, and they definitely don’t cuddle. At least, I wouldn't suggest it.

I live on the benches of the beautiful Wasatch Mountains with two lovely children, one teenager, and a very patient husband. I graduated from Utah State University with a B.A. degree in English, not because of my love for the written word, but because it was the only major that didn't require math. I can’t spell, and grammar is my arch nemesis. But they gave me the degree, and there are no take backs.

Review: I'd like to thank the author as well as Promotional Book Tours for allowing me to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
It's been awhile since I've given anything less than 4 stars, and I feel badly about giving this book anything less than 4 stars because towards the end it was really good. The premise behind the book was intriguing, and I loved it. The first half of it moved so slowly, it was almost painful to get through.I was glad I did get through it because it did pick up for me.
The author is a great writer, and he write so descriptively, it is easy to feel yourself in the story line. Some of the word choices that were made during the writing made things a little awkward. I found myself sitting back and wondering why he used that particular word. For instance, there's a part where the main character "crumbles" into a seat. I expected the word crumple, and if it was the first instance of a strange word choice, I would have put it up to a typo. However, if you think about it, crumbling and crumpling into a seat could both technically be done, but I don't really like to examine an author's word choice that closely, especially if I'm in the middle of an action scene.
I have seen some incredible reviews for this, very positive ones. I guess I just wasn't feeling this book from cover to cover.

EXCERPT: Mirror Deep by Joss Landry

Mirror Deep by Joss Landry -- EXCERPT

Patrick Vander Hurk headed for the countryside in his old Ford jalopy. The Detective drove to Rockford to meet with onetime fearsome Chicago DA, David Klein. He had reservations about the meeting. David and he had rarely agreed about anything. Klein had bad-mouthed him more than once to the press. Of course, he had retaliated, which had invited the usual reprimand from his chief of department. He had no choice but to seek David’s help; all the facts the department had fit neatly in a two-ring binder, and he’d have given top money to strangle the smart-aleck who’d leaked their suspicions about Dorian to the press. Now, he’d dug an even bigger hole for himself by threatening a member of the media. What a chump—him and his bad temper. The whole city was standing in line to laugh at him.The only reason his chief hadn’t taken him off the case was the department had nothing—zilch to go on. Plus, the commissioner went around threatening everybody—especially Chief Lang. Now on his way to seek help from an old enemy, the appointment arranged by the man’s wife, he would need to bend and kiss his ass—as Haines had put it—to squeeze information out of him while trying not to yell obscenities at the man.Vander Hurk arrived at a small stone cottage and drove up the circular driveway. The front lawn ran trimmed and well maintained, and deep rows of pansies of various colors lined each side of the path.He parked his car behind a black Jeep Cherokee in front of the door, and remained inside while tattooing an erratic little beat on the steering wheel to summon the courage to go through with the meeting. He finally upped his carcass out of the car and dragged his feet to the door. He rang the bell and waited. An intercom beeped and he heard a dog bark; then a feminine voice asked the caller to identify himself.“Patrick Vander Hurk, ma’am. We spoke on the phone.”

Adela Arthur and the Creator's Clock

by Judyann McCole
This book 1 of 5 for The Chronicle of A
Genre: Fantasy

To Who Ever This May Concern; I wish I could tell you the contents of this book were purely fictional. That I, Adela Arthur, was just a normal sixteen year old from Portland and that dragons, giants, elves and mermaids were just myths. After all, that is what I used to believe.I never would have thought they lived on the other side of our mirrors in a world called Cielieu. But they do…I never would have thought there were humans, better known as Volsin that lived among them with the ability to create light from a single thought. But there are…I never would have thought I was one of them… But I am… I am the last Arthur and I was brought to the human world after a Volsin, filled with greed, began to strip the light from our kind. The human world was supposed to be a safe haven… but he’s found us and the only way to stop him is to go back to Cielieu and begin training as a student in the Elpida Castle of Light.Like I said I wish the contents of this book were purely fictional and not my life…

One of the most venerated Sufi poets and saints, Hazrat Sultan Bahu’s life has been as veiled as the divine. Through countless stories, the loveable and fully illumined spiritual master’s life has been told mostly through oral tradition. Using the deep emotions of his teachings, this inspiring new book uses the depth of Sultan Bahu to ignite the love of God in readers’ hearts while uplifting them to greater heights. The Spirit of a Sultan is a mystical new novel based on the true life accounts of Sufi reverend, poet, and saint, Sultan Bahu. A historical biography reminiscent of Autobiography of a Yogi, the novel uses a slight fictional component to create a spiritual atmosphere throughout the story. A spellbinding tale of enlightenment, this wonderful book follows Sultan Bahu’s life history and spiritual journey while showing us all how to connect with God in our hearts and minds. Written in an extraordinarily unique and intriguing style, The Spirit of a Sultan portrays the true account of a saint who shares a great many parallels with Guatama Buddha. BOOK TOUR: The UnHoly by Dr Paul DeBlassie III

The Unholy, a novel by Paul DeBlassie III, Ph.D.

Distributed by Ingram

(Sunstone Press)

“A young curandera, a medicine woman, intent on uncovering the secrets of her past is forced into a life-and-death battle against an evil Archbishop. Set in the mystic land of Aztlan, the Unholy is a novel of destiny as healer and slayer. native lore of dreams and visions, shape changing, and natural magic work to spin a neo-gothic web in which sadness and mystery lure the unsuspecting into a twilight realm of discovery and decision.”

Have you ever thought that something other than yourself has a hold of your mind? Meet Claire, a young curandera, in the mystic land of Aztlan who struggles to overcome the forces of evil and claim her inner inheritance.
The Unholy is a riveting novel about the dark side of religion, cultural prejudice throughout the Southwest, realms of mystic happenings, folk healers, native shamans, and signs from the spirit world. It is a psychological thriller, supernatural journey, and neo-gothic horror.
The Unholy lures the reader into a twilight realm that pits two old worlds against each other — the indigenous medicine ways versus institutional religion. Natural magic and the dark side of religion each play a role as healer confronts slayer.
“Paul DeBlassie III has brought us a richly imagined supernatural thriller set in the high mountain desert of Aztlan, where Claire Sanchez, an herbalist and medicine woman, has come to reclaim her healing heritage and uncover the secrets of her mother’s death. The book digs deep into legend, folklore, and the author’s own imagination to paint a stirring picture of a traditional curanderismo pitted against the oppressive forces of institutional religious power. Make sure you have lots of time; once you start reading this book, it will be hard to put down.”
-—Stephan V. Beyer, author of Singing to the Plants: A Guide to Mestizo Shamanism in the Upper Amazon
The Unholy, an excellent novel by Paul DeBlassie III, keeps the reader engaged throughout in mystery, suspense, and church politics. In addition to vividly depicting the beautiful landscape and culture of New Mexico, it exposes and strengthens the traditional work of the medicine women of the Southwest. I am looking forward to Dr. DeBlassie’s next book.”
